“Ah, my old shool house”

-Megamind.  Great movie, by the way.  I couldn’t decide between that post title or this one:  Going, Growing, Gone.

So here we are at a major milestone.  My two children: school-aged and gone for 7 hours of the day.  Katie is now in 4th grade.  Her teacher is Mrs. Maxwell.  She officially has a locker that she will use daily and she becomes a big buddy to a kindergartner — perhaps she will get Ryan so it’s yet another reason she can boss him around.  Ryan is entering into Kindergarten.  His teacher is Mrs. Cincilla (same one Katie had).  Mrs. Cincilla is thrilled to have Ryan in her class because Ryan already knows his way around school and can be her little helper!

Katie is very excited to be back, and her worries include only one recess a day and having a very late lunch.  She was extremely chatty in the car ride to school.  She wanted to inform Ryan about life at school.  She even went into the details of what to do when the fire alarm goes off.  When we walked into school, she shot upstairs to her classroom and said hi to anyone and everyone.  She threw her supplies on her desk and charged around the room giving everyone hugs and telling them how happy she was that they were in the same class.

Ryan is excited, but much more reserved than Katie (ya think?).  He held my hand as we walked into the classroom and found his name where he will sit…right in front of the teachers desk!  He sat down and colored a picture and kept to himself.  I don’t think he spoke one word.  We took a tour of the classroom and found the bathroom, water fountain, and his yellow cubby that will hold important papers.  When it was time for me to go, he gave me lots of hugs and kisses.  Ahhhh, it warmed my heart.  I went in for one last kiss on his head and to smell his hair, when he looked up at me with his big brown eyes and said, “You can go now.”

I have 49 minutes until I see them again.  But I keep telling myself that I will enjoy the fact that they are growing up and getting ready for new adventures in their lives, and I am getting ready for some new adventures for myself.

Unfortunately, it’s always followed by:  I will forever be without them during the day.

sniff.

Happy Birthday, Katie!

For her 9th Birthday….

Before:

Putting a dot where the earrings will go.

Are you sure you want to do this??

We could just leave the dots like that…

On the count of three.  One, two…

three!

Okay, yeah, that hurt.

Way to go, Katie!

After:  (still feeling some pain)

Whatcha think, Katie-bug?

Yeah, she likes it.
